An addition starts with framing: walls that are straight and square, sheathing sealed against the weather, and openings exactly where the windows and doors need to go. On the two-story addition in these photos the walls went up in ZIP System panels, which become the weather barrier once the seams are taped. We frame and sheathe additions ourselves, then take the same job through drywall, trim and flooring.
Inside, finish carpentry is where a room gets its character: floor-to-ceiling bookshelves around a fireplace, a built-in bookcase and cabinet surround, new stairs and railings, and trim that meets the walls cleanly.
